Councillor Steward Correspondence Sent By Appleton Roebuck & Acaster Selby Parish Councl 12/12/23.
Dear Councillor Steward,
We write in relation to a recent article in Copmanthorpe News and specifically your comments below:
‘…I want more trucks to go through Appleton Roebuck (where the road safety is less pronounced).’
Whilst we appreciate that you are the Copmanthorpe Ward, live in Copmanthorpe and want what is best for Copmanthorpe, both the Parish Council and residents from Appleton Roebuck have raised serious concern and upset from your recent published comments.
Both Copmanthorpe and Appleton Roebuck is in the unfortunate situation of having to accommodate the Celcom lorries whilst the Bridge is closed to them.
It is our firm view that we should be working together to ensure that the Bridge is sorted as soon as possible and that more information about the closure is communicated to us.
We understand that not only has York Council failed to communicate anything to us as a parish council, but they have also failed to communicate any information or to consult with Celcom to try and arrange some suitable plans in the interim.
We have still had no information communicated to us around timescales or otherwise.
In our opinion, it is completely unreasonable and inaccurate to make statements which are not based on any consultation with Appleton Roebuck and based on no facts around the impact the lorries are having on our village as well.
We have consulted with Celcom directly and they will continue to split their lorries between Copmanthorpe and Appleton Roebuck.
They have also consulted with us about the high risks they bring to the village, especially having to drive past both a school and a preschool where there are no safe crossing spaces, limited space and passing places.
We appreciate it is not welcomed by either village, but we ask that you refrain from making such public statements in the future without any prior consultation with us and that we work together, rather than you just seeking to push all the lorries through Appleton Roebuck.
We hope for a more constructive dialogue going forwards and that we can work together with a shared agenda for the bridge opening,

SELBY WASTE COLLECTION 7/12/20.
Good afternoon,
Unfortunately due to a number of Amey operatives being required to self-isolate we have we have had to stand down a green waste round once again tomorrow. This means that green waste collection will not take place in Appleton Roebuck, Colton, Escrick and Thorganby.
Previously we had agreed that if we were unable to undertake any collections that we would ensure collections would be carried out in two weeks time but unfortunately this coincides with the Christmas suspension meaning the next scheduled collection for these areas is now Tuesday 4th January. We are unable to roll collections over to the next day as we already expect the have to stand down a round each day for the rest of the week so would be unable to catch up. This approach also ensures that we can cover all refuse collections this week which is the priority service. Unfortunately we won’t be able to take side waste next time as we can’t take green waste in bags. Residents will either need to take their extras to the HWRC’s or hang on to it for next time although tonnages are much lower at this time of year.
Information is being shared on our social media pages and all Ward Councillors have been made aware.
